KAMPALA, UGANDA — Hollywood star Tyrese Gibson has challenged Ugandans, particularly young people, to pursue their dreams, break generational limitations and strive to make a lasting impact in their communities.
Speaking during Uganda’s coffee tourism launch, Gibson shared a personal philosophy that he said guides his life: people should not simply pass through the world without making a meaningful contribution.
“We should be able to say that we are not just another person that the Lord Jesus Christ brought into this world. You lived and died and didn’t make any impact.”
Gibson said his message is ultimately about making an impact, arguing that dreams remain dreams when people fail to take action.
“Everything is about making an impact,” he said. “Dreams will remain just dreams if you don’t wake up every single day and go after it.”
Don’t Let Your Background Define Your Future
Gibson acknowledged that many people do not grow up surrounded by entrepreneurs, wealthy families, celebrities or influential people.
But he said a person’s background should not determine how far they can go.
“You may not come from an environment of entrepreneurs. You may not come from an environment where people are rich or famous, or celebrities and have money and wealth,” he said.
“But that doesn’t mean you are not supposed to be the first one in your family.”
He encouraged young people to become pioneers within their families and communities by pursuing education, professional careers and entrepreneurship.
Among the possibilities he highlighted were becoming doctors, engineers, builders and real estate developers, while also exploring opportunities in industries such as steel, lumber, gas and oil.

“Be the First”Gibson’s message centred on the importance of refusing to be limited by one’s circumstances.
For young Ugandans, he said, success could mean becoming the first graduate in a family, the first professional or the first entrepreneur to enter a particular industry.
His message comes at a time when Uganda is seeking to expand opportunities around sectors such as coffee, tourism, agriculture and investment.
The Hollywood star also expressed appreciation to the President of Uganda and Members of Parliament for their support towards the country’s coffee industry.
Coffee Tourism Can Create More Than Coffee
Gibson’s remarks came as Uganda seeks to promote coffee tourism by connecting the country’s coffee production with tourism experiences.
The concept allows visitors to experience more of the coffee journey, from the farm and farmer to processing, roasting and tasting.
For communities across Uganda, the approach could create opportunities beyond simply producing agricultural commodities.
It can create experiences, jobs, businesses and new markets.
For regions such as West Nile and Pakwach, the same philosophy could be applied to tourism.
Pakwach already has access to the Nile, Murchison Falls National Park, local culture, history, food and community experiences.
The opportunity is to turn these resources into tourism products that create opportunities for local people.
A Message Bigger Than Coffee
Tyrese Gibson’s speech ultimately went beyond the coffee industry.
His central message was about purpose, persistence and impact.
A person’s starting point, he suggested, should not become the boundary of their ambition.
For young Ugandans dreaming of becoming professionals, entrepreneurs, investors or creators, the challenge is straightforward:
Dream — but wake up and work for it.
As Gibson put it, the journey may be different for everyone, but the goal should be to leave behind evidence that your life made an impact.
