The Rotary Club of Murchison Falls has successfully organised the second edition of the Pakwach Cancer Charity Run, bringing together community members, leaders, organisations, and supporters in a united fight against cancer.
Held on Sunday, August 30, 2026, the event formed part of the 15th Rotary Cancer Run, held nationally under the inspiring theme, “Gwanga Mujje.”
The charity run aimed to raise awareness about cancer, promote healthy living and physical fitness, and mobilise resources towards the construction and equipping of the Cancer Treatment Centre at St. Francis Hospital Nsambya in Kampala.
More than just a sporting event, the Pakwach Cancer Charity Run became a powerful demonstration of what can happen when a community comes together for a cause that touches the lives of countless families.
Leaders Join the Fight Against Cancer
The event was officially flagged off by the Chief Guest, Hon. Fred Jachan Omach, former Minister of State for Finance, whose presence added great significance to the occasion and highlighted the importance of collective action in the fight against cancer.
Also in attendance were several district and community leaders, including the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), the LCV Chairperson, represented by the Vice Chairperson, youth leaders, as well as representatives from various government and non-governmental organisations.
Their participation demonstrated a shared commitment to promoting cancer awareness and supporting efforts to improve access to cancer treatment in Uganda.
Over 100 Participants Turn Up for a Worthy Cause
The event attracted more than 100 participants, including runners, walkers, community members, leaders, and supporters.
Among the organisations and groups that took part were:
- Memprow
- Vijana Corps
- Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA)
- Youth groups and community associations
- District technical and political leaders
Participants came together not only to run and exercise but also to send a strong message: the fight against cancer requires the involvement of everyone.
Fitness, Fun and a Purpose
The atmosphere throughout the event was lively, energetic, and filled with excitement.
Participants enjoyed the opportunity to exercise, connect with one another, enjoy music and meals, and, as many happily described it, “burn out the fats”—all while contributing to a meaningful national cause.
The combination of fitness, fun, friendship, and service made the second edition of the Pakwach Cancer Charity Run a memorable experience for everyone involved.
A Community United for a Healthier Future
The successful organisation of the 2nd Pakwach Cancer Charity Run demonstrated the power of community action.
When individuals, leaders, organisations, and young people come together around a shared purpose, they can create awareness, inspire healthier lifestyles, and contribute towards life-saving solutions.
As the Rotary Club of Murchison Falls, we remain committed to supporting the fight against cancer and mobilising our community year after year until greater awareness, improved treatment facilities, and better access to cancer care become a reality for all Ugandans.
Together, we run. Together, we fight. Together, we win.
