Rotary Club of Murchison Falls Joins Pakwach Clean-Up Ahead of Second Cancer Charity Run.

The Rotary Club of Murchison Falls, together with the 2026 Pakwach Cancer Charity Run team, joined residents and local leaders in a clean-up exercise across Pakwach ahead of the Second Pakwach Cancer Charity Run.

The exercise, held as part of Uganda’s National Cleaning Day, saw participants sweep streets, clear litter and prepare the town and surrounding routes for the charity run scheduled for Sunday, August 30, 2026.

Second Pakwach Cancer Charity Run Set for Sunday

The event will take place at Omach Playground, which will serve as both the starting and finishing point.

More than 150 participants are expected to join the run, which will feature three categories: 2.5km, 7.5km and 10km, allowing people of different ages and fitness levels to take part.

The Pakwach event forms part of the nationwide 15th Rotary Cancer Run, held under the theme “Gwanga Mujje”—a call for Ugandans to come together in the fight against cancer.

Security arrangements and first-aid teams will be available along the routes and at the venue to support participants.

Why the Cancer Charity Run Matters

Beyond fitness and community participation, the Rotary Cancer Run is raising awareness and resources to support cancer treatment in Uganda.

This year’s national campaign is focused on supporting the construction and equipping of a modern Cancer Treatment Centre at St. Francis Hospital Nsambya. The planned facility is expected to include critical radiation treatment infrastructure and Linear Accelerator (LINAC) machines, helping to strengthen access to radiotherapy services.

Improved cancer treatment capacity could reduce the burden faced by patients and families who often travel long distances in search of specialised care.

Funds raised through the Rotary Cancer Run also support cancer awareness, community screening and efforts to strengthen the capacity of health workers.

For Pakwach and the wider West Nile region, the Second Pakwach Cancer Charity Run is more than a sporting event. It is an opportunity for the community to support people affected by cancer while promoting awareness, prevention and early detection.

Today, Pakwach cleaned its streets. Tomorrow, the community runs them with purpose.
